Overview of Linear Motor Stator Materials

A linear motor is a device that directly converts electrical energy into linear motion mechanical energy. In a linear motor, the stator, as the stationary part, plays a supporting role and generates a magnetic field. However, this does not mean that the stator of a linear motor must be entirely composed of magnets. In fact, the choice of stator material is determined based on the specific design of the motor and the application requirements.

Diversity of Stator Materials
The stator of a linear motor can be made of a variety of materials, including but not limited to magnets. Common stator materials include electrical steel, silicon steel sheets, and permanent magnet materials. These materials have different properties in terms of magnetic permeability, mechanical strength, and corrosion resistance, and are therefore suitable for different applications.

Electrical Steel: Electrical steel has good magnetic permeability and mechanical strength, and is widely used in various types of motors. In linear motors, electrical steel is often used as the main material of the stator to provide stable magnetic field support.

Silicon Steel Sheets: Silicon steel sheets are a type of electrical steel with a high silicon content, possessing excellent magnetic permeability and low hysteresis loss. In high-performance linear motors, silicon steel sheets are often used as the stator material to improve the motor's efficiency and performance.

Permanent magnet materials: Permanent magnet materials can maintain stable magnetism over a long period without external current excitation. In certain types of linear motors, such as permanent magnet linear synchronous motors, permanent magnet materials are used as stators to generate a constant magnetic field.

Stator material selection criteria: When selecting materials for the stator of a linear motor, several factors need to be considered, including the motor's performance requirements, cost budget, and operating environment. For example, in applications requiring high efficiency and performance, silicon steel sheets or permanent magnet materials may be preferred as stator materials; while in cost-sensitive applications, lower-cost materials such as electrical steel may be preferred.
